Athletics
Our school is a member of the Bay-Midland Lutheran Athletic League, comprised of the Lutheran schools in the area. Boys of the upper grades compete in soccer, basketball, softball, and track. Girls in these grades serve as cheerleaders and compete in soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball, and track.
We believe that this aspect of the physical education program can play a valuable part in:
1) Providing a wholesome outlet for recreation, fun, and enjoyment in a Christian setting and under Christian leadership.
2) Promoting and developing sportsman-like attitudes, conduct, and relationships.
3) Teaching children the importance of self-sacrifice, team spirit, and team play.
4) Training children to properly accept victory and defeat, success and failure.
5) Teaching children to approach the tasks and challenges of life with vigor and determination.
6) Offering sports skill training to children.
7) Opening the door for the children to wholesome associations with people outside of our school and congregation.
It is very important that all spectators always show Christian sportsmanship.
Eligibility Policy
Student participation in athletic competition is governed by the following guidelines:
1) A total of three or more late or incomplete assignments in a given week will result in the student being ineligible for the next whole week (practice and games). All work must be completed to the classroom teacher's specifications by Thursday noon of the following week in order to become eligible again.
2) Disciplinary problems deemed so by the teacher and the principal will result in a minimum of one week of ineligibility. After a clear demonstration of the student's improved behavior he/she will be declared eligible.
3) The student athlete must attend school one game dates to be eligible. In cases of emergency (e.g., funeral) the school reserves the right to determine eligibility.
4) An unsportsman-like technical foul will result in the player being removed immediately from that game and he/she will not be permitted to play in the next schedule game. A second unsportsman-like technical foul will result in his/her immediate removal from the game and suspension for the next two regularly scheduled games.
