Two people are needed weekly after a Communion service for a brief time to wash and sterilize the Communion ware.

People are needed to help serve refreshments on Sunday morning following the 8am worship service.
Doormen / Hosts
Members of St. John's are invited to welcome and greet people and provide needed assistance into the church on Sunday mornings and other special services such as Advent and Lent.
Scripture Readers
Members of all ages are welcome to read the Old Testament and Epistle readings at the 10:45am Sunday service.
Ushers
Youth and adults are invited to be ushers for our two Sunday morning worship services. Primary duties are handing out worship folders, collecting the offering, and directing people to the Lord's Supper.
Day-to-Day Ministry Support
Acolytes
Seventh and eighth grade confirmation students are welcome to light candles for worship services. A brief training is held for them.
Altar Flowers
Altar flowers are welcome from donors. Sign up on the chart outside the church office. Donors will be contacted by our altar flower chairperson,

Altar Guild
Altar Guild offers opportunity to care for the altar and sacramental vessels.
Blood Bank
People are encouraged to donate blood in St. John's name at the Mid-Michigan Medical Center Ernie Wallace Memorial Blood Bank located in the lower level of the Orchard Building. (989) 839-3490
Calligraphy
Use your skills in creating different communication projects during the year.
Count Money
Adults are needed to count offerings after services. The time commitment is two or so hours on a scheduled basis.
Day of Prayer
St. John's hosts special days of prayer during the year. People are needed to organize the Day of Prayer, and individuals are encouraged to pray with us.
Day of Caring
Join the St. John's team in a Day of Caring. There are two opportunities per year, one in the spring and one in the fall. We volunteer at a home where the people need help with painting, cleaning, general repairs, etc.. It only takes a short time commitment from 8am-Noon.
Decorate for Christmas
A short-term project where people gather to decorate for Christmas and take down the decorations during Epiphany. Set up for the Sharing Tree is during the second week of November. After Thanksgiving and before the first Saturday in December the sanctuary and the alcoves are decorated. During the second week in January, all decorations are removed and stored.
Evangelism Callers
Members of the congregation are trained to make telephone calls and visits in homes of newcomers to the community, guests who visit our church, referrals, and prospective members. Periodically, training classes are conducted on Tuesday evenings.
Family Ministry
Family Ministry is a big umbrella at St. John's. We strive to meet the needs of our families. Currently, we give our three year olds a Bible for family devotions. Third graders also receive Bibles. we plan on adding special milestones in the next few years. We also have special activity bags for children to use during the services. Family ministry surveys are reviewed periodically to better serve the needs of our families, and numerous family activities are planned throughout the year.
Fellowship
Ready for fun? We offer great fellowship activities during the year from road rallies, sports, to Christmas shopping trips. We always look for new ideas! During Sunday mornings, we offer a relaxed setting for coffee and doughnut time before Sunday School and adult Bible study.
Food
Donations of food for use by Women of St. John's to serve at funeral dinners for bereaved families.

Office Help
There are several opportunities to serve in the church office. A few examples include assembling mailings and worship folders, data entry, computer skills, etc.
Photography
On different occasions, we need a person to take pictures of events (i.e., new member reception, Day of Caring, youth activities, etc.).
Prayer Chain
The objective of our prayer chain is to promote congregational prayer and a spirit of caring for the needs of others.

Quilters
St. John's quilters create quilts and other items to be donated to local and worldwide missions including Lutheran World Relief, Crisis Pregnancy shelters, and hospitals. The quilters meet weekly on Wednesday mornings in the Multi-Purpose Room. No experience is necessary.

Social Ministry

Sports
Opportunities include open gym basketball (Sundays 3-5pm), golf, co-ed softball (August-October), and volleyball.
Transport People to Church
When the need arises, we offer rides to those unable to get to church because of transportation difficulties.

Worldwide Missions
Our mission team seeks to raise the mission awareness of our congregation through coordinating and publicizing all activities related to our congregation's active support of five foreign missions: Slovakia, Kenya, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Hong Kong. The team also coordinates a North American project, which is currently People of the Book Lutheran Outreach (POBLO).
